Frequently Asked Questions
-
A humanist wedding is a entirely personal, non-religious ceremony built around you as a couple. There are no scripts to follow, no traditions you are obliged to observe, and no restrictions on where it takes place. Every element, from your vows and readings to the music and any rituals you choose, is chosen by you and crafted around your story.
A humanist ceremony can be as intimate or as celebratory as you wish. It is recognised for its warmth, its depth, and the lasting impression it leaves on everyone in the room.
-
Currently in England and Wales, a brief separate appointment with a registrar is required to make your marriage legal. Many couples choose to do this quietly the day before or the morning of the wedding, keeping the humanist ceremony as the true heart of the day.
It is worth noting that the law is changing. The UK Government has announced its intention to grant full legal recognition to humanist marriages in England and Wales, bringing it in line with Scotland, where humanist weddings have been legally recognised since 2005, and Northern Ireland since 2018. Kathryn is happy to advise on the current process and keep you informed as the legislation develops.

None. Kathryn has conducted ceremonies in country houses, private gardens, historic libraries, five-star hotels, and open countryside. If a location holds meaning for you, it can be the setting for your ceremony. The same applies to content. If you want your children, your pets, or a particular tradition to be part of the day, it can be woven in.

Every booking includes Kathryn's complete involvement from the first conversation to the final word of your ceremony. As a fully accredited Humanist UK celebrant, she manages every aspect of the process personally.
This includes an initial consultation, dedicated planning meetings, a detailed questionnaire, and the time taken to truly understand you as a couple. From there, Kathryn writes your ceremony entirely from scratch, handles all associated paperwork, and offers revisions until every word is right. A rehearsal is included as standard, and on the day itself, Kathryn arrives early, coordinates with your venue and suppliers, and conducts your ceremony with the full attention it deserves.
Nothing is delegated. Nothing is templated. Every ceremony is entirely her own work.

Kathryn brings something to a ceremony that very few celebrants can offer. With fifteen years of professional experience in radio, television, and online broadcasting, she understands instinctively how to hold a room, read an audience, and deliver words in a way that lands with weight and warmth in equal measure.
A ceremony conducted by Kathryn is not simply read aloud. It is performed, with the same level of presence and precision she brings to every professional engagement. Couples often say it is the part of their day that surpassed every expectation.
Beyond the craft, Kathryn takes genuine pride in getting to know the people behind the ceremony. That connection is what makes the difference between a ceremony that is personal and one that is truly unforgettable.

Vow writing is included as part of every wedding ceremony booking. Get in touch to begin the conversation.

Yes. As a Humanist UK celebrant, Kathryn is able to conduct fully legal wedding ceremonies in Northern Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, and Sark, where humanist marriages are already recognised in law.
For couples based in England and Wales, a separate civil appointment is currently required alongside the humanist ceremony — though this is set to change as the Government moves toward full legal recognition. Kathryn is happy to guide you through the current process.
Ceremonies outside of the Home Counties are warmly welcomed. Travel costs are discussed as part of the initial consultation.
